Presentation of Laboratory
The Laboratory of Microorganisms and Biomolecules (LMB) was approved by the C.N.E.A.R over the period 2010-2013
The LMB Research activities are focused on five programs:
The first concerns enzymes such as phytases, β-glucanases and microorganisms used as additives in animal feed.
The second is interested in proteases and amylases used in textile, baking and detergence industries
The third concerns some enzymes used in the food-processing industry in particular isomerases (glucose and L-arabinose isomerase) sweet sugars production with low calorie such as D-fructose, D-tagatose, recommended for diabetics and obese persons. Amylases used as additives for baking or as anti staling were also investigated.
The fourth is focused on biomolecules having biological activities (antibacterial, antifungal, antitumoral, etc), which could be used in food-processing, in agriculture and in industrial applications.
The fifth one deals with the development of DNA chips for diagnostic use for several applications (human and animal health, food products) et the development of cellular systems for the screening of bioactive molecules of pharmaceutical interest.
For the four first programs, interesting microorganisms are isolated from various biotopes. These microorganisms as well as enzymes and biomolecules of interests are characterized to evaluate there performances in comparison with commercial leading products. Gene encoding enzymes and biosynthesis pathways of the most interesting biomolecules were also studied.
For the last program DNA chips et cell culture technologies will be used first to design and produce DNA chips for diagnostic use and second to identify molecules having original activities of pharmaceutical value.
