The laboratory aims to design and test the best way to the treatment of industrial effluents and develop bioreactors (aerobic and anaerobic) with adapted flora.
The Laboratory develops "inoculants" (anaerobic and / or aerobic: pure or mixture of microorganisms strains) that are specialized for biodegradation of industrial effluents containing hydrocarbons, phenols, surfactants, detergents, phthalate derivatives , fats and emulsions, saline protein and other industrial wastes.
The LBPE Laboratory has extensive experience in the production of energy from waste. The LBPE developed a treatment plant of olive mill wastewaters at a large scale. This station could be applied for the treatment of olive mill wastewaters in Tunisia and in other countries.
The Laboratory has developed a method of treating surfactants wastewaters in 3 companies in Tunisia COSMART, Jasminal and Henkel. Those stations use specialized bacteria and aerobic membrane bioreactor (MBR).
The laboratory has expertise in bioremediation of soils contaminated by hydrocarbons using bacteria isolated at the Laboratory and produced on site (Example SOTULUB).
Production of hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein and compounds derived from olive extraction and bioconversion is conducted at pilot scale. This study could lead to an industrial application.
